So once upon a dreary night (okay, maybe it wasn't dreary, and maybe it was day, who knows?) fellow DeviantArt user ~laurelin89 caught a Kiriban. As per the rules of the game, she notified the concerned party via a screen capture and note, detailing the request she had thus earned the mighty right to ask for. The theme imposed was this: "something with Shin'ichi and Ran as the only characters." And it was a mighty prompt, and the artist was quickly inspired with an idea of what kind of picture she would aim for. Alas, the entity called "real life" kidnaps much time and energy, so the mighty prompt was laid aside as a dissertation was long wrestled with and other deadlines met. But now, the wait is over, for the kiriban picture has been made, it is done, and now it is posted.
Shinichi Kudo and Ran Mouri from Gosho Aoyama's Manga Series "Detective Conan" (known as Jimmy Kudo and Rachel Moore in English version Case Closed) find themselves in a tricky situation, as Shinichi falls unconscious on a crime scene he was visiting along with his childhood friend and potential sweetheart. But what is this vapour coming from his body? Does it have anything to do with the file and box he appears to have just dropped? Either way, Ran's fears are great. He can't be dying, can he?
Pen drawing, watercolour paints, and permanent markers. A reference was used for the pose of the characters (initial sketches were unsatisfactory), in the form of a magnificent fanart of Shiho Miyano holding her deceased sibling Akemi in her arms. Alas I believe the original Japanese site it was sourced from is now closed. References were also used for the characters, as I wanted to give them a more "Drama" feel, by using the characters from the series Live Action movies.
Apologies for the rather long commentary. Laurelin? I hope you enjoy the picture. ^___^
I love this. I get that Maltese Falcon mood from it, and yet the situation is so severly inappropriate for the setting and tones and coloring. Absolutely awesome

Haven't seen such a great fanart recently. Great detail, making a background like this requires some attention, and that unusual selection of colours and those strong shadows make the feeling even more tense. Love it. Not to mention that those two look way too good. <3
The butter legion- a socialist movement/mass colab project I started, to trigger artistic change and evolution in Da artists (mainly my watchers), to make them more active and dedicated on DA. Now 170 people strong and growing... A "dangerous cult"? a "new religion"? "artistic version of fight club" or "communist movement"? You decide!
